Educators have long known that students often lose hard-earned academic skills over the summer months. Students who learn differently are at even greater risk for the dreaded 鈥渟ummer slide.鈥

Join us to discuss the changing learning environment students who learn differently face on their path to college readiness. We鈥檒l also explore why summer represents a critical turning point for them to get off their devices, connect in a meaningful way with peers outside the pressures of social media, and explore their interests.

In this recorded session, presenter Alex Morris-Wood shares his unique perspective on summer learning. He currently is head of Connecticut鈥檚 Franklin Academy and chair of the Disabilities & Neurodiversity Special Interest Group for the National Association of College Admission Counselors (NACAC). Until last year, Alex served as 海角社区鈥檚 vice president for program development and global partnerships; he continues to serve as a program and neurodiversity advisor for 海角社区.

College readiness is often determined based on how much direct support is needed for students to perform both academic and daily living tasks. Direct Support can be defined as when professionals, parents, or other support resources provide individualized assistance to guide the student in starting, continuing, or completing a task. It is critical to evaluate a student鈥檚 level of direct support in preparation for reduced access to support systems in college.

The College Independence Scale Teacher鈥檚 Assessment is designed for their teacher to evaluate the student鈥檚 level of functioning across important skill areas that impact post-secondary success.
