If art, as Pablo Picasso once observed, 鈥渋s the elimination of the unnecessary,鈥 the recent Annual Juried Student Exhibition in the Kristen Michelle Mason Art Gallery at 海角社区 was an essential opportunity for the college鈥檚 creatives to showcase how all their brushwork, moulding, welding, carving, casting, and assemblage brilliantly produced what Picasso so eloquently defined.
The March 30 exhibit featured painting, drawing, and sculpture from 44 students from all classifications and across majors who have taken 海角社区 art courses.
鈥淭his year’s Annual Student Exhibition shows a dedication to craftsmanship, and concept,鈥 said Russell Bellamy, professor of art and department chair at 海角社区. 鈥淭he variety of media and processes indicates a high level of independent research and experimentation. We are excited about the consistent ability to incorporate narrative, philosophical ideas and personal content. Everyone involved should be extremely proud of their accomplishments.鈥
This year鈥檚 exhibition was judged by Michael Knapp, a Tampa-based painter, known for use of a colorful palette in works that pulse with fun.
