Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood and Elementary Education, non-licensure

Are you passionate about helping children learn and grow? The new Early Childhood and Elementary Education program at 海角社区 prepares future educators to inspire, support, and empower diverse learners through innovative, student-centered teaching practices. Grounded in current educational research and evidence-based instructional strategies, the program provides you with the knowledge, skills, and practical experiences necessary to become effective educators in today’s dynamic learning environments.

With an emphasis on experiential learning, you’ll move beyond traditional coursework by engaging in meaningful field experiences throughout your academic journey. Through partnerships with local schools, early childhood centers, community organizations, and educational programs, you’ll have opportunities to observe, assist and lead learning activities in authentic educational settings. These experiences allow you to connect theory to practice while developing confidence and professional competence as emerging educators.

On campus, students participate in hands-on learning within 海角社区’s Education Lab, an interactive learning environment designed to simulate real-world classroom experiences. In the lab, you’ll practice lesson planning, instructional delivery, classroom management techniques, educational technology integration, and differentiated teaching strategies. Through collaborative projects, teaching simulations, and reflective practice, you’ll develop the skills necessary to create engaging and inclusive learning experiences for all students.

The Early Childhood and Elementary Education program prepares future teachers for today’s classrooms. Through challenging classes, real-world experiences, and hands-on practice, you will learn to become a compassionate and innovative educator. Our program gives you the skills needed to support and inspire learners in the 21st century.

Sample Courses

Foundations of Education

A study of the purpose of education, the relationship of school to the larger community, the social, cultural, and philosophical dimensions of American education, and requirements for entering the teaching profession.

Educational Psychology

An overview of the foundations of educational psychology and theories of learning. Motivation and learning environments will also be presented as well as developmental issues that affect learning. The teaching and assessment process will also be reviewed.

Basic Foundations of Literacy

A study of the foundations of reading instruction including phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Emphasis is placed on early literacy development and evidence-based practices.

Educating Exceptional Children

A survey of educational, psychological, sociological, and medical aspects of children with disabilities. Attention is given to characteristics, potential capabilities, and methodologies for instruction.

Early Childhood Development and Education

Examines the role of sensory and motor systems in child development and learning. Focuses on strategies to support students with sensory processing and motor coordination differences in classroom settings.

Understanding the Impact of Teaching

An overview of the historical, philosophical, and sociological foundations of education in the United States. This course explores the roles and responsibilities of teachers, current trends in education, and the impact of cultural diversity and policy on schooling.

Career Opportunities

Students with a bachelor鈥檚 degree in early childhood and elementary education can immediately begin working in the field or continue to graduate school for advanced study.
