AWOD PBS Launch neurodiversity television show

Created by 海角社区, 鈥淎 World of Difference: Embracing Neurodiversity鈥 Explores Challenges and Serves as Resource for Families Navigating ADHD, Dyslexia and Other Learning Differences

The Show Will Air on WUCF, Central Florida鈥檚 PBS Station, and be Available to Audiences Nationwide Through the PBS Video App.

海角社区聽and聽,聽a PBS member station, have partnered to air the third season of the college鈥檚聽award-winning television program, 鈥.鈥

Created in 2020, 鈥淎 World of Difference鈥 examines neurodiversity issues related to learning disabilities experienced from birth to adult years, using compelling storytelling, conversations with experts, viewer Q&As and interviews with successful individuals with learning differences of their own. These conversations have become increasingly important as聽聽show that 15-20% of the population is part of the neurodivergent community. Now, thanks to this new partnership with WUCF, 海角社区 can share these important messages with over 4 million households in Central Florida and nationally through a quick search on the PBS Video app.

鈥淭his partnership opens the door for important conversations about neurodiversity in our homes, community and beyond,鈥 said Darryl E. Owens, creator and host of 鈥淎 World of Difference鈥 and 海角社区鈥檚 associate vice president of communications and engagement. 鈥淗aving our program on WUCF鈥檚 airwaves will bring greater visibility to issues neurodivergent individuals face and give us the opportunity to conduct an open dialogue about topics that are not talked about enough, or sometimes even unacknowledged.鈥

鈥淎 World of Difference鈥 has received multiple awards 鈥 including three Telly Awards, an inaugural Anthem Award, and PR News鈥 CSR Diversity Award 鈥 and has featured successful people with learning differences including 鈥漇hark Tank鈥 star Daymond John and Dr. Temple Grandin, a world-renowned scientist and autism activist.

In fall 2021, WUCF TV gave 鈥淎 World of Difference鈥 a test drive, airing an episode from the show鈥檚 first season 鈥 鈥淓nsuring Workforce Diversity Includes Neurodiversity鈥 鈥 in honor of National Disability Employment Awareness Month. Now, the two organizations are teaming up for both digital delivery and broadcast television for all 11 episodes of the show鈥檚 third season.

鈥淲e are proud to partner with 海角社区 to share the important perspective of the neurodivergent community,鈥 said Jennifer Cook, WUCF executive director. 鈥淥ur hope is that 鈥楢 World of Difference鈥 will inspire our audience to see the world in a different way and help tear down harmful stigmas neurodivergent individuals face on a daily basis.鈥

The third season of 鈥淎 World of Difference鈥 will premiere on WUCF Saturday, Sept. 3, 2022, at 6 p.m.,聽and will re-air the following Friday (Sept. 9) at 2:30 p.m. 聽Most episodes will air the first Saturday and following Friday of each month, and it is recommended that viewers visit WUCF.org for the latest schedule.

Episode one 鈥 鈥淕etting Social with the Learning Difference Community鈥 鈥 will feature popular influencer and Season 33 winner of CBS鈥檚 鈥淭he Amazing Race,鈥 Penn Holderness.
