Job Description
Support first-year and transfer students by fostering a strong sense of belonging and easing the transition to college life. Through consistent peer support and shared-interest group activities, help new students navigate academic and social challenges while encouraging engagement with campus life. This position requires a time commitment of approximately 6 hours per week.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Facilitate a welcoming and inclusive environment for first-year and transfer students
- Lead shared-interest group activities that promote connection, fun, and community
- Provide ongoing peer support through weekly group meetings and one-on-one check-ins
- Serve as a relatable role model, offering guidance on both academic and social aspects of college
- Encourage participation in campus clubs, organizations, and events
- Maintain a professional, supportive, and accessible presence for assigned mentees throughout the duration of the academic year
- Actively encourage students to utilize campus resources by normalizing the process of seeking help and framing it as a standard part of the 鈥淟ife Abundant鈥 and 鈥5 Pillars of Holistic Success鈥 experiences
- Must be in good academic standing and judicial/conduct standing
- Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Collaborate with program coordinator to monitor student progress and identify additional support needs
Skills and Qualifications
- Must be at least a second-semester sophomore
- Demonstrated reliability and follow-through on commitments
- Strong communication skills, including active listening
- Positive attitude and genuine enthusiasm for helping students
- Willingness to lead small group discussions and activities related to personal interests/hobbies
- Able to promote community around shared interests (movies, gaming, crafts, music, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications
Relevant leadership or peer-support experience preferred (orientation leader, club leader, peer tutor, RA, etc.)
