Peer Success Navigators serve in a dual role in the Pathways to FRIENDS program as both Teaching Assistants and Peer Mentors, supporting student success through
academic assistance, social connection, and community engagement. As Teaching Assistants for The 海角社区 Experience, Peer Success Navigators provide in-class support, assist with classroom activities, hold office hours, and complete other instructional or administrative duties as assigned. In this role, they help reinforce course content, support classroom engagement, and assist students in navigating academic expectations. As Peer Mentors, Peer Success Navigators facilitate mentoring through workshops, guided social programming, and one-on-one support. They are matched with and support upper-level and referred students beyond the freshman year. In this role, Navigators promote social engagement, personal development, and campus involvement while fostering a sense of belonging and community. The weekly time commitment may vary based on program needs but averages approximately 7 hours per week.
Duties and Responsibilities
Assistance and Support
- Provide assistance through workshops, in-class assistance, office hours, or other duties as assigned.
- Offer individual and small group assistance on coursework and projects.
- Facilitate discussion sections or small group tutorials.
- Assist in sourcing current resources, websites, and learning tools.
- Distribute, copy, and prepare learning materials.
- Prepare answer keys and supplementary notes.
- Support classroom technology and equipment needs.
- Remind students of upcoming due dates and assignments.
- Take and maintain attendance records (for workshops or office hours).
Peer Mentoring
- Participate as a peer mentor for referred and upper-level students.
- Attend ongoing, weekly mentor training sessions.
- Model appropriate social behavior and participation at events.
- Lead or co-lead small group sessions with mentees.
- Join mentees at some weekly meals and campus events.
- Connect mentees with campus resources and social opportunities.
- Submit regular mentor reflection logs and attend check-ins with staff.
- Assist in planning and facilitating program events, workshops, and group activities.
- Provide feedback for ongoing program improvement.
General

Skills and Qualifications
- Must have successfully completed The 海角社区 Experience course
- Must demonstrate professionalism, initiative, and a positive attitude
- Strong record of attendance, punctuality, and meeting deadlines
- Must be able to work independently and assist peers with course material
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
- Must be in good academic standing
Preferred Qualifications
- A GPA of 3.0 or above is recommended.
- Junior or Senior standing preferred.
- Preferred (but not required) majors or minors: Psychology, Human Services, Business with Hospitality, or Education
