Job Description
The PSY 2851 Teaching Assistant (TA) will support an undergraduate 2000 level general psychology course. The TA should be familiar with school-provided programs such as Microsoft Suite, how to use the library database, writing APA citations, and have successfully completed General Psychology. The TA will be required to attend class sessions and assist the instructor in supporting students during lectures and in-class activities, hold office hours each week, and attend trainings where feedback can be provided and challenges encountered can be addressed one or more times per month.
Position Overview
One TA is needed to work during class and host office hours outside of General Psychology. The student will work 5-6 hours per week and must be available during class as well as outside of class to host office hours as well as attend trainings one or more times per month.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Complete all tasks with a high level of professionalism.
- Briefly review course materials and assignment direction before classes each week.
- Foster a positive learning environment through supportive rapport building.
- Assist instructor in providing support to students in and out of class through explanation of assignments, breaking assignments into smaller steps, and constructive feedback.
- Help manage course materials and announcements on Canvas, if requested by the instructor.
- Ability to attend any required trainings with reasonable advance notice.
- Other reasonable duties as assigned.

- Must have completed PSY 2851 with no less than a B average
- Must have a cumulative 2.5 GPA or higher; semester GPA of 2.0 or higher
- Must follow the student code of conduct and have no major infractions
Preferred Qualifications
- Interest in psychology, human services, teaching, or related subjects preferred
- Comfortable assisting in facilitation of group interactions when students are not communicating effectively during group work
- Sophomore level or higher preferred (30 credits or more)
