Job Description
The Humanities Teaching Assistant (TA) supports a faculty member in delivering an engaging, organized, and inclusive learning environment. This role supports the student
learning experience by reinforcing course concepts, facilitating peer engagement, and assisting with instructional and administrative tasks. TAs work under the mentorship of a faculty member and are expected to model professionalism, reliability, and academic integrity. This position provides an opportunity to strengthen communication, leadership, and organizational skills while gaining hands-on experience in academic support and instruction.

Duties and Responsibilities

Instructional and Classroom Support

  • Attend all scheduled class sessions and actively support course delivery
  • Assist with classroom setup, materials distribution, and learning activities
  • Facilitate small group discussions, tutorials, or review sessions as directed by the instructor
  • Provide peer-level academic support by helping students better understand course concepts

Student Support and Engagement

  • Hold consistent weekly office hours to support students with coursework, assignments, and projects
  • Offer guidance on assignments while reinforcing faculty expectations (not completing work for students)
  • Foster a welcoming and supportive environment for peer learning

Administrative and Course Management

  • Take and maintain accurate attendance records
  • Assist with organizing and maintaining course materials and documentation
  • Support the preparation of answer keys, study guides, or supplemental notes as directed
  • Upload or update course materials and announcements in Canvas
  • Assist with copying, distributing, and organizing readings and resources

Work Expectations and Professional Responsibilities

  • Maintain consistent attendance for all assigned class sessions, office hours, and scheduled responsibilities
  • Communicate proactively with the supervising instructor regarding scheduling conflicts or concerns
  • If unable to attend a scheduled session or office hour:
    • Notify both the instructor and students as soon as possible
    • Post an announcement (when appropriate) and/or a physical notice
    • Coordinate with the instructor to reschedule missed time when feasible
  • Arrive prepared for all responsibilities, including office hours and discussion sessions
  • Uphold confidentiality, professionalism, and academic integrity at all times

          Peer Success Navigators serve in a dual role in the Pathways to FRIENDS program as both Teaching Assistants and Peer Mentors, supporting student success through
          academic assistance, social connection, and community engagement. As Teaching Assistants for The 海角社区 Experience, Peer Success Navigators provide in-class support, assist with classroom activities, hold office hours, and complete other instructional or administrative duties as assigned. In this role, they help reinforce course content, support classroom engagement, and assist students in navigating academic expectations. As Peer Mentors, Peer Success Navigators facilitate mentoring through workshops, guided social programming, and one-on-one support. They are matched with and support upper-level and referred students beyond the freshman year. In this role, Navigators promote social engagement, personal development, and campus involvement while fostering a sense of belonging and community. The weekly time commitment may vary based on program needs but averages approximately 7 hours per week.

          Duties and Responsibilities

          Assistance and Support

          • Provide assistance through workshops, in-class assistance, office hours, or other duties as assigned.
          • Offer individual and small group assistance on coursework and projects.
          • Facilitate discussion sections or small group tutorials.
          • Assist in sourcing current resources, websites, and learning tools.

            Lead Peer Success Navigators serve as experienced student leaders who provide advanced support, peer mentoring, and program coordination within the Center for Student Success for the Pathways to FRIENDS peer mentoring program. In addition to fulfilling Peer Success Navigator responsibilities, Lead Navigators support program organization, mentor development, and serve as a point of contact between student workers and professional staff. Lead Peer Success Navigators support both in-class learning and out-of-class mentorship activities, assist with training and onboarding of Peer Success Navigators, and help ensure the quality and consistency of assistance and peer mentoring services, including Pathways to FRIENDS. They model professionalism, leadership, and positive engagement across academic, social, and campus settings. Time commitment over the week may vary based on program needs but will be approximately 8-10 hours.

            Duties and Responsibilities

              Job Description
              The PSY 2851 Teaching Assistant (TA) will support an undergraduate 2000 level general psychology course. The TA should be familiar with school-provided programs such as Microsoft Suite, how to use the library database, writing APA citations, and have successfully completed General Psychology. The TA will be required to attend class sessions and assist the instructor in supporting students during lectures and in-class activities, hold office hours each week, and attend trainings where feedback can be provided and challenges encountered can be addressed one or more times per month.

              Position Overview
              One TA is needed to work during class and host office hours outside of General Psychology. The student will work 5-6 hours per week and must be available during class as well as outside of class to host office hours as well as attend trainings one or more times per month.

              Duties and Responsibilities

              • Complete all tasks with a high level of professionalism.
              • Briefly review course materials and assignment direction before classes each week.
              • Foster a positive learning environment through supportive rapport building.
